For First Time Dog Trainers

Most dog owners would prefer to personally conduct pet training rather than enrolling them in training schools. Dog training is an exciting and fulfilling experience that can help both dogs and their owners. Although it may be difficult and stressful at the beginning, specially for first time dog trainers, with the help of these tips, they can surely survive and have a well-trained and behaved dog.

Train in an area where your dog can focus and concentrate. The park may be a spacious area but it can be crowded and noisy. Thus, the pet will have a hard time hearing and obeying your commands. If you still prefer to do it in a park, be sure to find a quiet and less crowded spot. If your backyard is big enough to suit your training lessons, then better to just do it there. A place with lesser, or better, with no distractions will be the best training ground.

Stressing your dog is not advisable. Training lessons can be very tiring not just for the pet’s body but also for his mind. They have a short attention span too so don’t expect that they can focus for an hour or so of exhaustive training. It’s alright to have an extensive training module but try to keep the lessons short, around 20 to 30 minutes only. Do not over work your dog and try to give him time to rest in between the training time. Your dog may lose interest in training once he feels that training is an exhaustive activity for him.

Dogs love treats. You can give it to them anytime, but the best time to give it is during their training. Treats and toys can be their reward for showing obedience and exemplifying good behaviour. This way, you do not only show your appreciation for them, but also, they will learn to associate obedience is equals to treats. This way, he’ll be encouraged to follow your commands and do good every time.

Have a goal and do everything to achieve it. It is better if you have both short term and long term goals. It is important that you continue all effort until you achieve your goal. Some pet owners grow tired easily of training their pets. Dogs can be a too stubborn sometimes but please give them more of your time and patience. As mentioned earlier, training is a fulfilling experience especially if you have given much time and effort and at the end, you saw their progress. Having a well-behaved dog after training will make all the effort worth it.

Training can be a lot easier with the help of dog training aids. There is a wide selection in the market but be sure to try only a petsafe training tool. This way you can ensure the safety of your pet and guarantee effectiveness. You can also check product reviews to see what other dog owners and trainers are using.
